Parliament House & Teachers Strike

Hi V ... This is Parliament House in Spring Street Melbourne.   This week it was the destination for some 10,000 Victorian public school teachers who went on strike for a pay rise. The Australian Education Union billed the strike as one of the largest in Victorian History.  Current pay levels are not commensurate with working hours.  Teaching is such an important and responsible profession.  Teachers inspire tomorrow's leaders.  They deserve better.  J.

  1. this is beautiful...the pillars are majestic. here, education is one of the lowest budget priorities of the government and public school teachers are among the lowest paid professionals. a sad reality that many of them leave the country and work abroad as domestics.

  4. Hi J,
I appreciate your kind remarks about the teaching profession. It's so sad that teachers are not compensated for the work that they do. I taught for 20 years and it's the same in the U.S!

  6. Doesn't look as though too much thought was given to saving money when Parliament House was being built.

  7. I totally agree with Virginia. The conditions for teaching today are not what they were when I was a student. The mahem and other behavor issues make it a job almost deserving of "hazard" pay!

  8. Very warm and beautiful image Joe, love the shadows created by the light falling on the pillars. Let's hope something positive will come out of the strike, maybe if a few more 'lifetime' bonuses for politicians were cut down, or even out, there might be a bit to put into more deserving causes.
