Have You Ever Heard an Adult Pelican Squawk?

Hi V ... Have you ever heard an adult pelican squawk?  While they can vocalise as chicks they lose this ability as adults.  They communicate with gestures; snapping of their beaks, flapping of their wings and craning of their necks.  This one was communicating with his eye.  I think he is saying "come any closer and you'll be photographing my lunch!"  What do you think is on his mind? Cheers J.

  2. Cool point of view and close-up of pelican feather details Joe. I have never been this close to wild pelicans as they are always off and flying whenever anyone approaches! I think the implications of the Higgs boson discovery is on his mind :^)

  3. He was waiting for the other members of the Sex Pistols tribute band to turn up and then they were going to mime to an original 1977 recording they'd found. (Although they can't sing, pelicans are good mimics on guitar and only need to be shown a chord sequence once and it's committed to memory). Nice shot by the way!

  4. I could never get this close to a pelican, even with a long lens. Occasionally they will fly over me, but I need a fast camera to photograph them. Great shot.

    Have a great week-end Joe.

  6. I've seen lots of pelicans but come to think of it they were all pretty quiet. Great unexpected view of a pelican.

  7. He's definitely checking you out through the corner of his eye Joe, wondering just how much closer you're going to come. Such a brilliant shot, the feather detail is astounding, nice work indeed!

  8. What a grand perspective on this fascinating bird, Joe. A hairdo like this in the local stylists would cost over $200 ... just saying.

    1. Thx Julie. The problem would be getting the Pelican to sit in the chair!
