Winter Solstice

A solitary figure stood on the brink of the longest night.  He heard the tide sigh as it lapped around the pier below him. He saw the moon grin as it silvered on the sea before him.  He felt the mist of the cold air vaporize on his skin. Barely perceptible on the distant horizon a lighthouse blinked red silently heralding the Solstice.  He believed in the Solstice.  Tomorrow the day would be longer. Tomorrow the sighs would effervesce to laughter, the grins would beam to smiles and the mists would recede revealing hope in an elusive future. He was far from alone.
This is my contribution to the City Daily Photo mid-month theme "Festival of The Solstice". For other contributors from around the world click here.
PS I've posted this photograph before. It seemed apt for the Solstice theme.
