WHALE BONES AT WONTHAGGI

That arched entrance to the Wonthaggi Hotel are the jawbones of a 74 foot whale which washed up on the beach 90 years ago on 4 July 1923.  The Powlett Express reported that the "Monster Whale was washed ashore on the beach at 'The Wreck' about four miles from Wonthaggi".

  1. I have seen this kind of entrances on one of the small islands in the North Sea - from where the whale hunters left a long time ago. I love whales….they are amazing creatures.
