BRIGHTON BEACH

Thanks to Governor Arthur Phillip (1738-1814) we had a public holiday today.  Back in 1788, a trifling 244 years ago, he declared a holiday to mark the birthday of the King of Great Britain. Until 1936 it was held on the actual birthday of the Monarch, but after the death of George V it was decided to keep the date on the second Monday in June.  Hale to Governor Arty and thanks to King George. What better way to spend it than with a picnic blanket, friends and the beach.  Photograph taken above Brighton Beach near South Road.    Cheers J.
