OH DEAR

Oh dear! Had a little mishap yesterday.  Mrs J & I were heading down to the beach  in search of some fresh air and some new photographs for Melbourne Snaps. I was just about to caution Mrs J that the ground was slippery when with a groan and a rather loud snap I hit the ground. Super J (Mrs J) immediately swung into action, grabbed the mobile telephone from my pocket and dialed 000 for an ambulance.  We were in a fairly remote area and the signal dropped out. Not good.  She tried again as she waived to some  walkers in the distance.  I lay still looking up at the grass above me and the insects buzzing around my head, ignoring my expanding ankle.  The passers by arrived fearing it was a heart attack. We assured them my heart was fine and that I thought I had broken my leg.  Mrs J connected with the ambulance service and one of the passers by kindly went back to the top of the hill to make sure they found us.  Half an our later I was surrounded two paramedics, two police, five national parks guides with a utility and a mobile access vehicle half way up the hill and two ambulances at the top of the hill.  With a splint securely holding my leg and some very welcome painkillers they assisted me to hop up the hill to the vehicle and then to the ambulance. What service! All that was missing was the helicopter!

A big thank you to the wonderful passers by that kept us calm, to Mina and Trevor the paramedics, the police and the doctors and nurses at the Rosebud Hospital.  A super thank goes to Mrs J as she sat with me in the grass with love, reassurance and a camera.

We shall be out taking photographs again very soon.

  1. Ouch, a broken leg, sounds painful. Glad to hear that the help arrived quickly. Maybe you could get that helicopter ride so that you can keep on photographing!

  2. Disturbing but how good is it to live in Australia where so many professionals come to your aid. I hope you are out taking photographs again very soon.
