BATHING DOGS IN THE SEA -1892

Back in the day, 24 September 1892 to be precise, the Kerferd Road Pier was the subject of a hearing in the South Melbourne Court! Poor old Mr. Thomas Urquhart was fined for, wait for it ...., bathing his dog in the sea from Kerferd Road Pier. The prosecutor stated he had received numerous complaints from people who had good clothes spoiled by wet dogs. The prosecutor reported he had seen as many as 50 wet dogs running along the pier at one time. Urquhart pleaded guilty.
