I wonder too. I like the lighting, which adds to the intrigue. To answer your question Joe about my blues, I use a polarizing filter on my lens to deepen blue skies on sunny days, I also like shooting at twilight when the blues in the sky are more prominent, and I like to add some vibrance to blue skies during post processing too. I know my color is over the top sometimes, but my clients go for it!
