Mad dogs .....

Dear V ... The mercury climbed to an oppressive 42 degrees celsius in Melbourne today.  For some the beach was the best respite.  This photograph was taken yesterday.  Today I would imagine there would have been little sand visible through the beach towels and kaleidoscope of umbrellas.  I know it is not quite PC today but how does that Noel Coward song go ..

Mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the midday sun.
The Japanese don't care to, the Chinese wouldn't dare to,
Hindus and Argentines sleep firmly from twelve to one,
But Englishmen detest a siesta,
In the Philippines there are lovely screens,
to protect you from the glare,
In the Malay states there are hats like plates,
     which the Britishers won't wear,
At twelve noon the natives swoon, and
no further work is done -
But Mad Dogs and Englishmen go out in the midday sun.

Keep cool J.

  1. I checked out Mount Martha beach yesterday and that too had just a few beach goers at 10am, but I imagine that today would be quite a different story on my peninsula! I shopped early and returned home early before the mob! Great view of the long stretching beach in your photo!

  2. If you dont think this is hot, you must have been born on the sun!!

I'm not sure I really enjoy days like this!

  4. Would you like to change places? It's not so warm (and it's not a beautiful day) around here today... :(
I like the way you shot the beach, we can see how flat and deep it is. ;-)

  5. Beautiful photo. If those temperatures keep up, the tennis stars are gonna find it hard going at the Australian Open in just over a week's time!

  6. That's a lovely photo to see in the middle of winter where I live. I love beaches, it's a shame that there aren't any in my part of the world!
