St Kilda Pier Pavilion

Hi V ... Dawn at the St Kilda Pier Pavilion.  There has been a pavilion at the end of St Kilda Pier since 1904.  The original was designed by Charles Morell in 1904 and was officially called the Austral Refreshment Rooms but locally known as Parer's Pavilion after its operator, Frances Parer.  It became Kerby's Kiosk in the 1930's when it was operated by the Kerby family.  I remember from the 1960's.   It was operated by Joe Silitoe and Carmel Grant from 1987 to 2003.  Unbelievably, on 11 September 2003 it was destroyed by arson. Fortunately it was reconstructed to its original plans and re-opened three years later in 2006.  Scroll down a page at this link to see the original structure.  Cheers J.

  1. it seems like a lovely place, worth being rebuilt! I really appreciate the colours of your photos, the softness of the curvy lines. Very nice.

  5. I love pavilions on piers! The older the better. Have you ever been to Brighton, UK? It's the most amazing I've seen.
