WHAT IS THIS?

From a time gone by.

  1. It's a Marshalite? traffic light indicator. Melbourne had a few but the one I personally remember was on the beach road near or in Chelsea. When my grandfather was driving us down to The Peninsula he would note the position of the hand and put the accelerator to the floor if the hand was about to enter the red area, indicating the traffic lights were about to turn red. That is why they have become historical objects.

    1. Thanks for your reply. Yes ... I remember a couple of them along Nepean Highway. Had no idea they were called a Marshalite. I can understand why they would have encouraged and not deterred speeding.

    1. Thanks for taking a guess. It's actually an old fashioned traffic light.
