Look Who Has Won The Lottery!

This was an advertising sign I noticed in a bric a brac shop in Prahran.  It seems to be promoting the Italian Lottery perhaps in the 1950's or may be earlier.  I don't quite understand the significance of being happily blinded by the Italian Lira.  Can anyone enlighten me?

    Maybe the Italians have a phrase "blinded by money", much as we have "blinded by love"? Or maybe not..

    P.S. I forgot to explain it better... the young blind girl with the open arms represents the fortune... who would not want to be hugged by her?
