Hi V .. This headstone commemorating the Little family lies in Kew Cemetery. It is surrounded by larger headstones, decorative tombs, angels and fluted scrolls. Age has deteriorated the words carved on many of the headstones yet this one seems as clear as the day it was made. Perhaps it was recently renewed. There is no epitaph just three names a date and an age. It's simplicity and clarity shines. .. J. Shared with Taphophile Tragics.
The font intrigues me! It looks as if maybe an old font has been overwritten! Interesting!
ReplyDeleteIf it is the original script then the Littles have become 'big' compared with their neighbours.
ReplyDeleteIt is interesting. If is surprising that the lettering may be renewed considering the latest date is almost 100 years ago I.e. 1919
ReplyDeleteIt's rather a mysterious headstone Joe, no messing about with sentiment or anything just straight out facts. Intriguing indeed!
ReplyDeleteSo striking with the white against the black. Simply beautiful!

That is an unusual font for a headstone!
ReplyDeleteI've seen old headstones repainted to highlight the incised information. I think that's what happened here. Straight and to the point on this headstone. Do you think stone carvers charged by the letter? And this is a sign of frugality?
ReplyDeleteWhat an interesting font, I don't think I have ever seen this on a gravestone. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeletethe font seems quite modern..
ReplyDeleteim also surprised how the inscription at some stones seemed not to have aged at all, while at others its completely unreadable.
I feel certain that stone carvers charged by the character!! And agree with everyone else, that this is a different, yet refreshing font to use on a headstone. Tragic for parents to outlive a child like this.
ReplyDeleteLittle but ample in terms of a memorial...
