Young & Jackson's Hotel

Hi V ... Young & Jackson's Hotel is situated on the corner of Swanston and Flinders Street opposite Flinders Street Station.  Wikipedia tells me that the site was originally purchased by John Batman in 1837 where he subsequently built a home for his children.  It became a schoolhouse in 1839.  Sadly the schoolhouse was burnt down in 1853 and warehouses were erected on the site. The Princes Bridge Hotel opened in 1861 and the hotel was renamed to Young & Jackson after the Irish diggers who took it over in 1875. It has remained Young & Jackson ever since and today remains one of the most well-known pubs in Melbourne.  Cheers J.
