It's been a big couple of days for Melbourne. Yesterday the media fluttered with news that the readers of Conde Naste Traveler Magazine voted Melbourne equal first with Auckland as the friendliest city in the world. Just as Melbourne was basking in the glow of being called "the classiest", "a friendly bunch" and "the capital of cool" it blushed again today after being named "the most liveable city in the world" by the Economist Intelligence Unit for the fourth year in a row! Time for an extra Cappuccino! Count the change though; all that "cool" costs. Last March Melbourne ranked as the sixth most expensive city in the world. Bon Vivant J.

Seems the cost of cool makes the city un-livable-inable, however friendly. A contradiction!
ReplyDeleteI guess I will pack my bags and move your way!
ReplyDeletePerhaps the magazine should have reported the city friendlier for some and maybe not so much for others?
ReplyDeleteBut all in all its still a decent place to hang your hat!

Congrats! I can definitely see why.
ReplyDeleteIt seems there is always an exchange...most livable, but expensive. One just has to weigh the trade-offs and go for it. Sounds like a lovely place to live.
ReplyDeleteI think Melbourne must be pretty special Joe, it's popularity is constant. Perth came ninth on the list, I'm pretty happy with that. Excellent capture of that fabulousness here Mrs J :)
ReplyDeleteThat does look like a fun place.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to Melbourne on becoming the most livable city. :)
