Three weeks and a third location - Avignon, France. When we turned the corner we thought we were on a film set. Gulp - it was real! This is the Popes Palace one of the largest and most important medieval Gothic buildings in Europe. This papal residence was the seat of Western Christianity during the 14th Century. A time when the Popes resided in France. Astounded J&J.
Well, some of the popes at least. It also was a time when the Church was split between the pope in Avignon and the Pope in Rome.
ReplyDeleteLovely!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous building, and forecourt. Avignon is a complicated city with the full range of social problems. I adored it.
ReplyDeleteWhy Avignon is complicated? All cities are complicated, all have their social problems in all countries of the world! The advantage in this is that France was not allowed to abandon the disadvantaged, we help them out of trouble, thanks to our social system without exception everyone has access to health care as they are for example !
So three weeks: Paris, Lyon, Avignon. Anything to follow that?
DeleteIt's nice to discover France gastronomy with all I hope!
